Born July 10, 1931 in Pekin to Henry and Ollie (Jenkins) Walbert, she married Lester Riley on April 30, 1954 in Mackinaw. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Douglas Riley of New Jersey and Eric (Ann) Riley of North Carolina; one daughter, Colleen (Kevin) Metzger of Peoria; seven grandchildren, Patrick Riley, Nicole (Jay) Krick, Stephanie Riley, Jessica Riley, David Riley, Riley Metzger and Amber (Charlie) Waibel; two great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Charlet Riley; one great great-granddaughter, Skylar; three sisters, Helen Hundemer, Betty Johnson and Barbara (Jack) Pfanz, all of Pekin and her “Angel from Heaven”, Connie Julien.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters and one brother.
Virginia had been a member of First Christian Church in Pekin and a former member of First Christian Church in Pontiac.
She had worked as a salesperson for Sears in Pekin and then in Pontiac for over 14 years, retiring in 1990.
Virginia loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed antiquing and collecting glassware with her husband.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Hank Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Random Acts of Kindness be performed in memory of Virginia or memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run in Amber Waibel’s name, 4722 N. Sheridan Road, Peoria, IL 61614 or to First Christian Church, 1201 Chestnut Street, Pekin, IL 61554
