Born April 1, 1942 in Peoria to Simon Burnett and Emily (Holtzman) Gresham, he married Barbara Jo Beenders on July 27, 1963 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, David (Mindy) Gresham of St. Louis, Missouri, Allan (Donna) Gresham of Mapleton and Michael (Annette) Gresham of Delavan; eight grandchildren, Maddie, Joe, Tyson, Lauren, Morgan, Madison, Sidney and Molly and one brother, James (Kathy) Gresham of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Patricia Curless and brother, Thomas Michael.
Steven was a 1960 graduate of Washington Community High School. He then attended Illinois State University earning his Bachelors of Education Degree in 1965.
He was a past 30-year board member of CISA (Central Illinois Service Access) and a former member of the Delavan Rotary and Pekin Boat Club, where he served as treasurer.
Steven began his teaching and coaching career in 1965 at Limestone Community High, where he taught Business and coached football. He then taught P.E. and coached basketball at Delavan High School until 1977. Steven later changed careers and began working as a Loan Officer at various banks in the area, which included Herget Bank, Tazewell Co. National Bank, Commerce Bank and retiring in 2005 from MidAmerica National Bank.
He enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, boating with friends and family and meeting his friends for breakfast. He found great joy fishing with his boys, watching his grandchildren play sports and watching high school sports throughout Central Illinois.
Steven was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin.
His memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Stephen D. Barnes will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
