Born August 26, 1939 in Jerome, Missouri to Robert James and Goldye (Davidson) Giddens, he married Louise Bertha Sidwell on November 9, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Randy (Deanna) Giddens of Creve Coeur, Ronnie D. Giddens and Rodney (Cindy) Giddens, both of Pekin; three daughters, Rhonda (Rick) Crull of Columbia, Missouri, Roberta (Tom) Blanchard and Rebecca (Chris) Onken, both of Pekin; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one brother, Robert Eugene Giddens of St. Clair, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Ruth Diane Giddens and Renee Lisa Maggart; five brothers, Terry Giddens, Jerry Giddens, James Giddens, Richard Giddens and Gary Giddens and three sisters, Melody Sue Watson, Carol Joye Adkins and Sharon McDonald.
Ron worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 31 years, retiring in 1998 as a machinist. He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Local 974.
He was a talented and self-taught individual that could fix just about anything. Ron enjoyed playing board and card games with family and was glad to tease them by telling them how to lose.
Ron enjoyed fishing and camping and did a lot of woodworking. He also formerly enjoyed riding motorcycles for many years.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Eric N. Swanson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
