Robert Michael "Mike" Munson

Born June 21, 1938 in Pekin to Harold Elos and Marion (Stoltz) Munson, he married Nancy Darlene Burke on May 23, 1959. She died August 14, 2021 in Pekin. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lynn Munson; one sister, Gloria Parsons and one brother, David Munson.

Surviving are one daughter, Christine (Aaron) Stein of Pekin; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Stein, Kathryn (Seth) Parker and Alexander (Samantha) Stein; four great-grandchildren, Allison and Jaide Stein and Sorren and Finley Parker; one sister, Sally Pruett of Okawville; one brother, Tom (Judy) Munson of Rushville and several nieces and nephews.

Mike joined the Pekin Civil Defense Fire Dept. in 1956 and retired as Fire Chief in 1985. Following his retirement from the department, he was appointed as an Honorary Pekin Fireman.

He had worked as a pattern maker at Caterpillar, Inc. in Mapleton for 41 years before retiring in 1997.

A family guy, Mike put his family first and foremost. He enjoyed playing golf following retirement with a group of guys, known as the “Goofy Golfers”.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor John Vaughn will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
