Mamie Florilla Cooksey

Born June 22, 1923 in Booneville, Mississippi to Walter Laugustas and Nancy Viola (McAnally) Carpenter, she married J.C. Cooksey March 6, 1943 in Booneville, Mississippi. He died September 30, 2007 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Timothy Cooksey; two sisters and seven brothers.

Surviving are one son, Melvin (Erma) Cooksey of Green Valley; one daughter, Wonda (Charley) Laucus of Manito; four grandchildren, LaBreeska (Marcus) Hailey, Lucinda (Brian) Cook, Brad Cooksey and Priscilla (Victor) Oggero and seven great-grandchildren.

A homemaker, Florilla enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading her Bible. She also thoroughly enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Florilla was a member of Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Pekin.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Rev. Philip Steele and Rev. Thomas Peretic will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spring Lake Cemetery in Manito.
