Born January 30, 1918 in Eldorado to Robert P. and Venita M. (Brown) Eubanks, he married Mary M. Ripper on February 7, 1973 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Yvonne Elaine (Dave) Koehne, Janice (Terry) Ghidina, both of Pekin and Julie (Jeff) Overright of Normal; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one brother, Art (Bernice) Eubanks of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Kay Lewis on April 13, 1998 and Beverly Gentile on December 5, 1998; and one son, Scott Brantley on November 14, 1994.
A World War II Army veteran serving with the 82nd Airborne, Ken served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936 to 1938.
Ken worked for Corn Products Company in Pekin for 36 years, retiring in 1978 as an internal auditor. He then worked for the Illinois Secretary of State in the local records unit for 15 years, retiring in 1993.
He played baseball on the Corn Products team during the 1940s and early 1950s and managed the 1951 Reed's softball team in Pekin. He enjoyed golfing and ballroom dancing and was passionate about politics.
Ken served on the Tazewell County Board from 1982 to 2000 and was a former chairman of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission. He was a longtime democratic precinct committeeman for Pekin #33. He also was a past treasurer of the Pekin Township Democrat Club and a past secretary of the Tazewell County Democrat Central Committee.
He was a member and past president of the Pekin Lions Club. He was a member of the Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232, William Schaefer American Legion Post 44, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916 and Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council 3507, all in Pekin. He also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Ken was proud to be the first grandfather to volunteer with the Pekin Marching Dragons for 6 years.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
His funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father David Whiteside will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
