He was born March 18, 1932 in Wasson to Ernest and Effie (Pritchett) Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rex Carpenter and two sisters, Mary Pritchett and Catherine Shewmake.
Surviving are his brother, Bobby (Shirley) Carpenter of Pekin and nine nieces and nephews including, Sheila (George) Keck, who he helped raise.
Charley worked for Corn Products Company in Pekin for 30 years as a shipping clerk, retiring in 1983. He then went to work for Midstate Heating and Air Conditioning and later for Trouble-Free Plumbing for over 20 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard and tending to his flowers.
Charley trusted Jesus Christ as his personal savior from the time he was a teenager. He was actively involved for many years at Faith Baptist Church in Pekin, where he was head usher, treasurer and trustee. He was a member of the LaMarsh Baptist Church in Mapleton for many years.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Brandon Dillard will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
