She was born January 5, 1940 in Pekin to the late Lloyd E. and Ruby Lucille (Romani) Peake.
Carol was a 1958 graduate of Pekin Community High School, and received her degree in Cosmetology from Liberty Beauty College. She wore many hats in life, including, being a self-employed beautician, a 35-year employee for J.C. Penney Company; and a lunch lady for Washington Township School Corporation for 10 years, where she was loved by all the kids for the hugs, smiles and occasional cookies she would give them daily. But, her favorite hat worn was with love for her family. Carol was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and “Noni”.
She was a longtime member of the Church at the Crossing, where she sang in the choir.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Laura L. (Curt) Challman; her son, Mark R. (Dana) Bowers; one brother, Lloyd “Gene” (Marcia) Peake; two sisters, Shirley Drucker and Judy A. Mehl; four grandchildren, Justin R. (Meghan) Bowers, Lucy A. Challman, Nicholas R. (Stephanie) Bowers, and Olivia F. Bowers; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Emily; and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, with visitation held one hour prior to the the funeral. Russ Lindahl will officiate. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
