Visitation will be 5:00-8:00pm, Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 1:00pm, Friday, January 8, 2016, in the funeral home chapel with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
He was born Friday, June 22, 1934 in Rankin County, Mississippi, a son of the late Johnny Gaston Gilmore and Lena Boehle Gilmore.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Sonny served during the Korean War. Sonny was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Pearl where he served as a Deacon. A Thirty-Second Degree Scottish Rite Mason, he was a faithful member of John P. Byrd Lodge No. 629 for more than fifty years where he was Past Master. Sonny was Past High Priest, Past Illustrious Master and Past Commander of the York Rite. He was a member of the Wahabi Shrine where he had served with the clown unit. He was also Past President of the Pearl Shrine Club. Sonny was a charter member of the MS Lodge of Research.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Jean; sons, Karl Gilmore and wife Kathy and Darryl Gilmore and wife Melissa; sister, Joan Holmes; and grandchildren, Lindsay Rebecca, Kyle Xavier, Cari Elizabeth, Taylor Kathryn and Jonathan Darryl Gilmore.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Dawn.
