Visitation will be held 2:00pm-5:00pm, Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00am, Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the funeral home with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon.
Bill, as he was known to family and friends, served three tours in Vietnam earning three Bronze Star Medals with oak leaf clusters, three Army Commendation Medals with oak leaf clusters, NDSM medal, Vietnam Service medal, Republic Vietnam campaign medal, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Medal W/Palm, as well as several other awards and commendations.
Bill enjoyed watchings sports, especially baseball, football, and NASCAR. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. When he was able, he loved tending a garden and would grow all sorts of vegetables. His favorite hobby was fishing and he would always joke that he caught more fish by accident than his children ever caught on purpose.
What he loved most of all was taking care of and providing for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Violet Banks, and his brothers, Robert Sawin and Butch Sawin.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Neyoma Ruth (McNeece) Sawin of Braxton, MS, his son Richard William Sawin and wife Eva of Pearl, MS, son Philip Jason Sawin and wife Ada of Brandon, MS, son Cory McNeece Sawin of Braxton, MS, his granddaughter Jennifer Marie Porch and husband Wes of Pearl, MS, granddaughter Lisa Renee Garland and husband Richard of Canton, GA, grandson Joshua Matthew Sawin of Pearl, MS, granddaughter Quaye McNeece Sawin of Brandon, MS, great-granddaughter Serenity River Garland of Canton,GA, great-granddaughter Haley Marie Porch of Pearl, MS, and great-granddaughter Summer Rose (Little Bit) Garland of Canton, GA., and numerous nieces and nephews.
