Mattie Lou Shill, 89, born in Poplarville, Mississippi, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 2, 2023 at her residence. She was born March 9, 1933 and was a beloved member of her community, known for her strong faith and commitment to her church, First Baptist Church of Fannin, in Brandon, Mississippi, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mattie was a dedicated homemaker and a skilled seamstress, dedicating her life to her family. Despite losing her parents, Oscar and Bernettie Smith, her husband, James F. Shill, and her four siblings, Virginia Ladner, Charles Smith, O.C. Smith, and Estelle Williams, she lived a life filled with love, kindness, and compassion.
Mattie had a zest for life and was always up for an adventure. She loved taking cruises, spending time with her family at get-togethers, playing cards and dominoes, and cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Her warm smile, quick wit, and infectious laugh made her a favorite among all who knew her. She dedicated her life to her family and was always there to offer a helping hand.
She is survived by her two daughters, Tammy Massey and her husband Kenny, and Angela McConnell and her husband Alan. Mattie was proud of her children and loved spending time with her grandchildren, Cody Atkins (Melissa), Shill Hunter (Michel), Brittain Massey, Bishop Knapp (Nick), Brandon Atkins (Christy), and Bradley Atkins (Tara), and her twelve great-grandchildren.
Mattie lived her life guided by her unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her love for her faith and her love for life will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and all who knew her. May she rest in peace and be reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her and bask in the everlasting love of her Lord and Savior.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the Juniper Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Poplarville, Mississippi where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband. Pallbearers will include Kenny Massey, Alan McConnell, Cody Atkins, Brittain Massey, Brandon Atkins, and Bradley Atkins.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Fannin for the Honduras Mission Program.
