It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Gill Cannon announces her passing on June 29, 2021 at the age of 86. Mary passed away peacefully and with dignity at a family home after a battle with Dementia Disease.
Mary was born to Hardy and Esther Nelson on February 19, 1935. After graduating from Jacksonville High School, she married Leo Gill. Mary and Leo moved to Jackson, MS where they began raising a family. They later lived in Whittier, CA and Cabot, AR before finally residing in Pearl, MS where all 5 of their children graduated from Pearl High School.
After Leo’s passing in 1992, she later married James Cannon in 2000. They spend much of their time enjoying their love of Bluegrass music and traveling all across the country making countless friends.
Mary was a devoted Christian. She began teaching Sunday school in her teens until she retired in her 80’s. Although she served in various positions in Skyway Hills Baptist Church, some of her fondest memories were of the years she spend leading the seniors group and teaching a ladies Sunday school class. Over the years, she worked in a several medical offices and retired from the City of Pearl Water Department.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband, James Cannon; her sister, Irma Nelson Pritchett of Cabot, AR; her brother, Dalton Cartmel of Cabot, AR; her children, Alice Gill Kring (Bill) of Travelers Rest, SC, Judy Gill Sanders (Johnny) of Brandon, MS, Delores Gill Hudson (Joel) of Corning, NY, Lee Gill of Terry, MS, and Lesia Gill Toney (David) of Brandon, MS. Mary will also be fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Johnny, Joshua, Katie, Katherine, Kaitlyn, Alison, Blair and Cara.
