A visitation for Ray will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home, 3780 Highway 80 E, Pearl, Mississippi 39208, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM and burial at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl. Reverend Timothy Mains will officiate the services that day. Serving as pallbearers are Ryan Mains, Shane Davis, Morgan Sistrunk, and Holland Boyd.
He was born on June 3, 1949 in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late Tommie Jackson Boyd and Johnnie Bell Dunaway Boyd. Growing up in Lawrence County, Ray took some electrical college classes, but ultimately found his pride and joy running the convenience store that he owned. Ray's Minimart was a town staple, especially among the school children who filled the store on their way to and from class each day. Some would say that he could be a bit of a workaholic; after putting in a 12+ hour shift at his business, Ray would get home to start working at night using the headlights from his car, tending to his yard and flower beds.
Overall, he had an easy going spirit. Anyone that knew Ray was quick to note his sweet and appreciative disposition. He was a Godly man and loved others just as Jesus did. Ray could be found attending First United Pentecostal Church of Brandon in more recent years until he was physically no longer able. His Faith was all the while strong, however, and though not there in person, he undoubtedly had The Good Lord in Spirit.
In addition to his parents, preceding him in death are his siblings, Thomas Gerald Boyd and Doris Carney.
Ray continues to be loved on this Earth by his endearing wife of 53 years, Marilyn Jean Bass Boyd; sons, Jerome Boyd and Holland Boyd; grandson, Destin Boyd; siblings, Lucille Davis (Alan), Peggy Mains (Tim), Pat Mathews (Charlie), W.C. Boyd, and Willie Boyd (Karen); brothers-in-law, Thomas Bass, and Joey Carney; sister-in-law, Sandra Boyd; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his beloved canine, Gracie Rae.
He will be so dearly missed.
