Harry was born to the late Harry C. Miller, Jr and Lucy Boone Nelms on November 17, 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee. Upon graduating from Osceola High School in Arkansas in 1954, he joined the Air Force as a Personnel Affairs clerk. While stationed at Waverly Air Force Radar Station in Iowa, he met Maxine at an ice skating rink. Afterwards, they went out for hot chocolate and the rest is history.
Harry was stationed in the Azores, Tripoli, Iowa, Wisconsin and Germany. His last duty station was Keesler Air Force, Biloxi, Mississippi arriving just five days before Hurricane Camille. At Keesler, Harry became a Personnel Affairs Master Instructor and wrote the Personnel Affairs course curriculum for the Air Force.
After serving twenty years in the Air Force, Harry retired and moved his family to Brandon, Mississippi. He then began a second career as a military benefits counselor at the Jackson VA hospital. Because of his knowledge, he was tapped to brief troops coming back from Desert Storm on their benefit entitlements.
Harry loved traveling and camping with his family. He had visited all fifty states. He loved woodworking and sold his wares at craft shows throughout Mississippi. He also loved to tell stories and give people a hard time.
He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brandon and was currently an active member and Elder Emeritus at Lakeland Presbyterian Church.
Harry is survived by his wife, Maxine; daughters, Arlys and Brenda; three grandchildren, Jason Kyzar, Tiffany Roberts and Cortney Carby and six great-grandchildren, Nicole, Dustin and Bradley Roberts and Avery, Cassidy Bea and Ellora Mae Kyzar. Harry is also preceded in death by his two sisters and his daughter Cindy.
