She was born in 1929 in Coldwater, MS to Lee Roy and Ruby Lee Walton. Upon graduation (1947) from Dixon High School in Neshoba County she worked at Stubbs Department Store in Philadelphia, MS. After a few years she moved to Jackson, MS to begin employment at South Central Bell Telephone Company.
In 1951 she married her longtime sweetheart, Robert Larry Cooper, of Union, MS and they continued to reside in Jackson, MS. Soon after she married, Sue dedicated her life to being a wife and raising a family. God blessed Sue and Larry with four daughters whom she adored. Life was very busy raising her family, and she did so with tireless effort and had many busy days. It was her goal as a mother to not only provide the physical essentials but to make sure they learned things she deemed important for them to be successful in life. She provided all of her children various opportunities to discover their talents. Many hours were spent taking them to lessons for piano, swimming, art, dance, baton, and attending all school and sporting events in which they were participants. As a believer in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, she and Larry took the girls to all church services and activities and rejoiced as each child became believers as well.
Sue was a charter member of Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson, MS where she was a director of the nursery for a number of years, a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, and also served on many committees one of which was the building committee for a new sanctuary.
She was active in the Home Extension Club of South Jackson and was very involved in the PTA at Marshall Elementary and Whitten Junior High.
Sewing was a talent she perfected and she was an accomplished seamstress, making all of the clothes for her daughters and herself. Along with sewing, she took great pleasure in gardening and had an extensive knowledge of plants.
Family was her most valued possession. She felt her wealth was her family. Every child was her favorite. God blessed her with 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her happiest times were those that were spent with her entire family gathered together. She was immensely grateful for her sons-in-law who were always willing to help.
In 1984, Sue lost the love of her life, her husband Larry who died suddenly. She faced the following years of life being strong and determined, overcoming many obstacles, handling them with grace and dignity. Her family is grateful for the cherished times spent together, and the wisdom she imparted on them.
Proceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Robert Larry Cooper, her parents, Lee Roy and Ruby Lee Walton, her sisters Elizabeth Kay Windham and Bobbie Nell Johnson.
She is survived by her daughters, Vanessa Dale Perkins Robbins of Madison, MS, Sondra Odom (Steve) of Pearl, MS, Jo Lippard (Donny) of Columbia, TN, and Monti Watts (Dayle) of Pearl, MS.
