She spent the first two-thirds of her life in a tight-knit and diverse Long Island community, where, like her contemporaries, weathered the Great Depression and WWII, which instilled in her a deep understanding of the value of work, taking pleasure in simple comforts, like conversation, and the importance of resourcefulness in tough times.
Those challenging years led her to embrace her faith, and she lived her entire adult life as a devout Catholic but with close friends and relatives of many faiths. She was a person without prejudice.
During her New York years, her children were inspired by her limitless empathy and compassion for others, her ability to see the good in all things, and her curiosity, which led her to be a lifelong learner.
She moved from New York to South Carolina in 1989. While living in South Carolina, she helped build what is now a flourishing Catholic parish, St. Francis of Assisi, where she became a eucharistic minister. She often spent her spare time engaged in charity work, including preparing and delivering meals to agricultural migrant workers.
After 17 years in South Carolina, she moved with her husband, Rob, to Peachtree City in 2006, where she has lived for 18 years.
During her professional life, she worked initially as an assistant buyer in New York's garment district. Later, after raising her family, she was an adult education sewing instructor and a Middle School librarian with Hewlett-Woodmere Public School System. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and 4H Leader.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Robert (Rob) Norman; she is also preceded in death by her parents; brother Anthony Curiale; her sister and best friend, Sadie Cisario; and daughter-in-law, Michele Norman.
Survivors include her daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Seery (Nicholas); her sons, Robert Norman (Edna) and Brian Norman; grandchildren, Jennifer Powell (Erik) and Erika Cooper (Christopher); great-grandchildren, Carson Powell, and Charles, Liam, and Isla Cooper.
No services are scheduled currently.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ASPCA in her honor.
