Steven Collier Burdette

Steven attended Russell High School in East Point, GA, and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he served from 1967 through 1970. He was assigned to the USCGC Westwind which allowed him to travel the world. He traveled from the Arctic Circle to the South Pole earning the National Defense Service Medal and Antarctica Service Medal. He retired from ADI after 18 years and was a faithful member of the Fayetteville Church of Christ.

Steven was an avid fisherman and NASCAR fan. He loved drinking sweet tea, being on the lake, searching for shark’s teeth on the beach, and spending time at the ball field. Steven’s greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. He loved being called “Grandad”. Coaching was his passion and he coached many kids how to play football, basketball, and baseball during his lifetime. You could always find him on the field or in the stands being his grandchildren's number one fan.

Steven was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 45 years, Sharon Janelle Nash; his parents; his daughter, Shay Lea Burdette; and his stepmother, Edna Burdette.

Steven is survived by his son, Tony (Jodi) Burdette; his daughter, Shelby (Jimmy) Garner; his grandchildren, Tyler (Hailey) Burdette, Justin Burdette, Jake Garner, and Kyndal Garner; brother, Paul (Diane) Burdette; sister, Kelly Ann (Brent) Whitaker; brother-in-law, Ronald Biles; and sister-in-law, Betty Jo Nash. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as other friends who were so special to him.

Visitation for Steven Burdette will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Carmichael Hemperley Funeral Home, 135 Senoia Rd, Peachtree City, GA 30269. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at 11:30 am with Minister Dave Rogers presiding. Interment will be at 2:00pm, 3600 Adams, College Park Cemetery, College Park, GA 30337, with military honors.
