Linwood is preceded in death by his wife, Sara Frances (Bell) Ham; his parents; and his siblings, Mavis (Ham) Parker, William P. Ham Jr., and John S. Ham.
Linwood is survived by his daughters, Rena (Ham) Brown and Teresa (Ham) Buoch; and his grandchildren, Elijah Linwood Rogers, Hannah Rose Rogers, Sarabelle Christine Rogers, Christopher Jude Brown, and Elizabeth Neely Brown.
Linwood served in the Navy during WWII. He spent two years in the Aleutian Islands on the Bering Sea, as a Seabee, building runways for the allied bombers to land and refuel. He was then transferred to the South Pacific for the last two years of the war where he continued to work as a Seabee and as a Navy Frog. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service there. After the war ended, Linwood returned home to Georgia where he married his bride, Sara Frances Bell, in 1946. He began his education in night school while working in construction during the day. He eventually earned a Jurisprudence Degree in Law and a Ph.D. in Psychology. Among his many accomplishments, Linwood served as Director of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, served as Vice President of the East Point Chamber of Commerce, Co-Founder of South Fulton Hospital, was a founding father of the Emergency Medical System in Fulton County, and founder and builder of President Jimmy Carter’s Atlanta offices.
It was not the offices that he held or the degrees that he earned that made Linwood Ham a remarkable man. It was his faith, character, and loving heart. He was the first to respond to a need. He would explain to his children that we must all live with our hands open, ready to give. His faith in Jesus Christ was genuine and deep, and his life gave witness to that faith every day. He left a living legacy in those around him.
