I just learned of Eric's passing, and my deepest sympathy to those he loved and who loved him. 

We were inseparable in middle school, acting as unofficial lab assistants to Mrs. Hamilton during lunch hour.  Eric introduced me to chess, and I can remember hours spent running around in the woods behind his house as kids.

Rest well, my friend, I only wish we could have reconnected after all these years.

I'm so sorry to hear that Eric passed away.  I worked with him a decade or so ago in collaboration with Bob Byrne,  Eric was always so enthusiastic and inquisitive, we always enjoyed visiting him in his lab at SRL.  My deepest condolences.

I am speechless, and shocked. I can't believe Eric is gone. I was sitting here reminiscing and thinking of the old days back at Howell High School and my friend Eric, so I Googled him up with a thought to reach out and the first hit is an obituary.

I am extremely sorry for your loss.

Eric was a gem, he was a great friend. We had a riot going out on Friday nights, borrowing his mom's red Dodge Daytona Pacifica - what a sweet car. Or hanging out at his house, messing around on his Apple //c computer. I remember when he built an RC helicopter, and then was super afraid of crashing it, so he spent hours just hovering it 2 inches off the ground then landing it again.

I can't remember now, how we got hooked up in the first place. It must have been in an AP class in high school. But we hit it off, over computers, over certain girls (P.M. in particular!), he always had this boyish enthusiasm and excitement, even over his Dodge Colt (a pretty boring car.) But we had tons of fun. Then high school ended.

I left for Florida Tech and fell out of touch, with pretty much everyone. I went there for 2 years, then transferred to U of M for 2 years, then dropped out. I worked in IT in Ann Arbor for a year, then moved to Atlanta until 1996. I came back to Ann Arbor, and worked for an Internet Service Provider with offices in the ITI building. I remember this clear as day, I'm sitting in the front office area, near a window, talking to my boss and who do you think goes strolling by in the corridor?? None other than Eric! So I race out there, I haven't seen him in probably 9 years, and literally nothing had changed. He was the same as ever! He was just revisiting old coworkers. What are the odds!

Anyway, again I am so sorry for your loss. The world has lost an amazing person and I have so many regrets now that I missed my chance to talk to my friend once more.

Eric was a member of our aviation club and an integral part of our volunteer team during Sun 'n Fun. Each year, we looked forward to Eric being in attendance for the week long air show. Eric was always smiling, enjoyed spending time at the event & volunteering. He will be greatly missed!

We will miss you, Eric. I feel fortunate that I was able to have you as a friend, colleague, and mentor at GTRI. You were the first person who greeted me when I first started working at GTRI. You always helped me as I "learned the ropes." I enjoyed your enthusiasm and will remember your optimism when working on technical issues. My family and I had the pleasure of meeting your family in June and seeing you as a great father and husband. Rest in Peace, Dear Eric.

I didn't know Eric for long but what a wonderful person! We worked together briefly coming up with project ideas mostly over the phone due to Covid, initially corresponding just a few months ago. We only got the chance to meet in person this July 6th/7th when he was in Maryland for a conference we both attended. What I remember best about Eric is his energy from that first call to our last meeting. Even though we only recently connected, he left such a positive and motivating impact in my life. I am grateful for the time and hope to carry on future work with his colleagues. I will remember him fondly.

I became familiar with Eric in the nineteen-nineties during his internship in our company ZF in Germany. I was a young engineer at that time and worked together with him on some projects. But we undertook a lot of trips and activities in our leisure time as well. We had lots of fun, and Eric learned fluent German at that time.
We always kept contact, and we had a nice day during your visit to Germany in 2019. Feeding some monkeys at the 'monkey hill' close to the Lake of Constance was a nice experience.

We feel so sad about Eric,
and you, Ellen and Nathalie, are in our thoughts all the time.

I work with Eric at the Georgia Tech Research Institute. Everyone loved Eric, and he was good at everything he did. In addition, I got the honor of working with Eric on one of his other interests - inspiring the younger generation. Eric was a regular supporter of one of GTRI's missions to provide science demonstrations to K-12 students. He helped me design new demonstrations, and he went to schools and shared his knowledge and passion for science. Like everything else, Eric was good at relating to others no matter their age or background. I will miss Eric's stories and his help with technical matters, but I will miss his regular laughter and genuine kindness most.

Dear Ellen and Natalie,
My Husband Charlie Jones worked at the Marine Science Center in St Petersburg with Eric.  
He just thought the world of him and always had an interest in all he did at the Center.
I remember your Wedding and how sweet and special it was. So lovely and you could tell then that you two were a Team in Life.
When Natalie was Born Charlie was so thrilled and came home to tell me about it walking in the door. Also what she called an elevator was the laugh of our home for many years.
I ache for both of you.  
Much love from me and also if Charlie was here he would be wanting to hug both of you and try to comfort you.

I only met Eric virtually this winter/spring to assist with a review for a project at work.  He was very conscientious, thorough and organized.  I am so very sorry to hear this news.  Wishing his family much strength and healing thoughts.

I did not know Eric very long, but the short time I did know him, he was the sunshine on a rainy day. He always had a bright and optimistic outlook and his light was great to be around.  I am very sad knowing his light will not be on this earth any more, but know he will be a very bright star in the evening sky. I was blessed to have known him.

I still can't believe Eric left us. I have worked with Eric at USF since early 2000 and we worked together continued until he left SRI for Georgia Tech. We were a science and engineering team that made many advances in science possible. His kindness, his signature smile will be forever in my memory. The photo was the X Prize pH sensor team which Eric was the chief designer of thee instrument. I remembered during the competition, we got a few hours we went to a hike in the mountain, we walked and talked. He found the cap of the disposable drinking water bottle was lost somewhere in the trail. I asked why he would look for a cap, he said he did not want to mess up the nature. I was deeply moved from this seemly small thing. It showed his big heart. I had benefitted from him so much over the years. He was always there when I need help, even after he moved to Georgia. It is just so sad he departed so soon. But he left rich memory in who who he loved and who loved him. Eric, you will always be in my heart. Thank you so much for your kindness. 

It was our privilege to know Eric for the last twenty years.  He, Ellen and Natalie are considered family.  He was was one of the sweetest and most endearing person we have ever known.  His enthusiasm and zest for anything and every new adventure was contagious.  He will be missed by so many people.  Bless you, Eric!  With love to your family, Ron and Nancy Normark



I knew Eric from his work with the HH-60G team. He was incredibly smart in his work but also so pleasant to be around. I loved hearing about his life in the golf cart community and seeing pictures of his dogs. I’m so sad to hear about his passing and keeping your family in my thoughts in prayers for the days, weeks, and years to come. ❤️

It was a great pleasure working with Eric as a student, a colleague and a friend.  His cheerful attitude and signature smile could brighten any day and make you feel that everything will be ok. I will greatly miss him.  He has left us way too soon.
