Anita was born on August 17, 1932 to Herman and Emma in Brooklyn, NY. The Wulff family moved to Roselle Park, NJ in 1936 and opened Wulff’s Homemade Candy & Ice Cream shop where later Anita worked after school as a Soda Jerk. After graduating from Roselle Park High School in 1950, she went on to attend Traphagen School of Fashion in New York City where she learned the skills of a seamstress.
Anita married William J. Broderick in 1954. She was incredibly involved with her children’s activities such as PTA, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Little League. She made elaborate costumes for school plays & Halloween. She was an avid member of her Roselle Park community and would often serve as the Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade being driven in her husband's classic red Cadillac convertible. She was an active member of the Community United Methodist Church, involved with different ministries and events.
She worked for Boyle Midway in Cranford, NJ and later for Andy John’s in Clifton, NJ.
She was "Grandma" to 7. She was a great-grandmother to 17 boys and just 2 girls, who all lovingly called her “Oma”.
She always made holidays special, from decorating, to family meals, to making sure every family member received their own personal card for each holiday (the children would always find a dollar or 2 in every card).
She always looked forward to family vacations at the Jersey Shore in Lavalette and later Manaqsquan. On Sunday mornings in Lavalette, Grandma Anita would ride her bike to the bakery and fill it's basket with rolls & doughnuts for the family. She always had a treasure trove of small activities or toys to surprise the kids with during vacations or visits.
She used her seamstress skills to benefit others, teaching them to her children, grandchildren and others or making items for cancer patients & babies at the local hospital. She also enjoyed making gifts for others with her talents.
After retiring, Anita became a snowbird and later permanently made her home in Ormond by the Sea, FL, joining her two best friends, her sisters. There she attended First United Methodist Church. You could often find her and her sisters at Alfie's Restaurant. She was very involved in her AARP and Red Hat Society as the coordinator of the table decor. She also belonged to a water aerobics group called "The Water Babies" and enjoyed playing cards (Hand & Foot) weekly with friends.
She followed in her mom's footsteps by continually gathering the family together and keeping them close. The thing she most cherished was time spent with family
.
Anita was predeceased by her sister Doris Schoemer, her former husband William Broderick and her son-in-laws William Sztybel and William Zappulla. She is survived by her sister Jeanette Smethers, children Carol Broderick, Barbara Zappulla, Janis Sztybel, William Broderick and his wife Donna, grandchildren Bryan Moss, Adam Moss, Kelly Bechtel, Christine Feldi, Cheryl Muller, William Sztybel and Kelsi Broderick and 19 great-grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
