Dorothy was born on March 30, 1939, the youngest of five daughters to Clarence and Fay Rasmussen in Payette, ID. She was raised and educated in Payette, graduating with the Payette High School class of 1957.
She married Joe Acevez in 1959 and had two sons, Jim and Tim. Although they later divorced, mom moved us back and forth between Idaho and California to allow us to see our father, but we eventually settled in Payette.
Mom always worked hard to provide us the best life that she could, often working two jobs and making personal sacrifices to provide for “her boys”, a fact that was not missed by my brother and me. She worked many jobs but her time at Ore-Ida and TVCC were special for her because of the great friends that she made there.
She was a wonderful person, who loved unconditionally, laughed hard frequently and never met a stranger. She worked hard to find the good in everyone and her favorite saying to us growing up was “if you don’t have something nice to say about someone, then don’t say anything at all”; wise words indeed.
Mom loved animals and nature and really enjoyed crafting, but she was especially talented at embroidery. She created many beautiful pillow cases for the family which we will cherish forever and will remind us of her every day.
Family was everything to Dorothy and she was blessed to have four wonderful sisters whom she loved dearly. She lost Betty and Beverly far too early but she was thankful to have Carol and Shirley all these years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Rasmussen, mother Fay Rasmussen, two sisters Betty Robinson and Beverly Jurgens and a nephew Bobby Ashworth.
She is survived by both her sons, Jim Acevez (Sandi) of Eagle, ID, Tim Acevez (Vonnie) of Payette, ID; two grandsons, Jared Acevez (Amy) of Payette, ID and Nick Acevez (Heather) of Payette, ID; two granddaughters, Leah Acevez of Eagle, ID and Caley Eckhart (Andy) of Meridian, ID; two great granddaughters whom she loved with all her heart, Colbi and Averie Eckhart of Meridian, ID; her two sisters, Carol Haymes of Caldwell, ID and Shirley Ashworth (Merle) of Payette, ID; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
To honor Dorothy, memorials may be made in her name to the Payette First Baptist Church.
“Heavenly Father, throw open your arms and welcome our mother’s spirit into your eternal kingdom. Comfort and protect her until we can once again hug and kiss her. She will live in our hearts until that time”.
