

Thornton Lenoir Kidd, MD, age 92, passed away on March 23, 2025. T.L. was born in San Antonio on August 3,1932 to Thornton Lenoir Kidd, Sr. and Lillian B Watts Kidd Maroney. He attended San Antonio Military Academy (Texas Military Institute), San Antonio College, Trinity University, and The University of Texas at Austin, before entering Medical School at UTMB in Galveston. He graduated in 1957 and completed his residency and his fellowship in 1961.
T.L. served as First Lieutenant in the Army, then transferred to the Public Health Service, a division of the US Coast Guard, and served as Senior Assistant Surgeon. He later moved to Seattle, Washington to serve as Lieutenant Commander and Chief of Pediatrics and Pediatric Allergy. He also taught at the University of Washington Medical School while doing medical research. In 1961 he married Billie Rekoff, and welcomed their daughter, Sharlyn, the following year.
The family moved to Austin, then Pasadena, where T.L. practiced medicine for 44 years and was board-certified in pediatrics and allergy and clinical immunology. Over those four decades, T.L. served as president of the Texas Allergy Society and served in and led many other professional organizations. He was published in the Medical Tribune, and the Pasadena Citizen. He often spoke at community outreach programs on allergy and asthma. In the 70’s, he was a regular on the radio show “Call the Doctor” where he would answer medical questions from callers. His passion was to help people not only with medicine, but in any way he could. He truly cared so much about each patient. He also loved his office staff and nurses; they became family and many still are today.
T.L. had many interests including traveling, photography, Texas history, military history and listening to classic country music. After he married Betty in 1993, they enjoyed traveling to the Texas Hill Country, finding bluebonnets, enjoying many cruises, Jackson Hole, and Banff. He visited many historical sites around Texas and photographed the beauty of our state. T.L. was a proud member of the Confederate Air Force and would travel around Texas to see their air shows. He absolutely loved dogs and had a special place in his heart for golden retrievers.
His infectious smile and kind heart will be dearly missed.
T.L. was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Kidd, his former wife, Billie Kidd, his wife, Betty Kidd, nephew, Keith Kidd and dear friend, Betty Davis. He is survived by his daughter, Sharlyn Hughston (Paul), granddaughters, Payton Hughston, and Samantha Hughston, sister Carmen Anderson, cousin, John Ladd, niece Kristin Anderson, nephews Lance Anderson, David Kidd, Brian Kidd and Greg Kidd, extended family: Eugenia, Elisabeth, Caroline, Paul, Michelle, Ray, Ronny, Vic, Jennifer, Abby, Victor, Buryl, Rey, Nancy, K-Ball, Bob, Lisa, Dana, his office staff, and caregivers and staff at Solana Vintage Park.

Visitation will be held on April 1, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Grand View Funeral Home, located at 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas, 77505. A Celebration of T.L.'s life will begin at 2:00 pm. Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park.
