Penny Kayanne (Paul) Cooper peacefully passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020, in La
Porte, Texas.
Mrs. Cooper married her best friend of 17 years, James Gregory (“Frog”) Cooper on July 27,
2020 and together they raised and adored their Boston Terrier, Gidget Wayne.
Penny was born March 14, 1983 to parents Diane (Williams) Rogers and Thomas Paul. She is
the sister of Thomas Paul, Jr. and siblings, Rachel Phillips and Chad Phillips,
and the granddaughter of her late grandparents: Larry Williams and Roberta Hoefar, and
Gladys Ann and Walter “Buddy” Paul.
After graduating from Sam Rayburn High School, she attended San Jacinto College and later
began her career at P.A. Inc. in inside sales.
Throughout her short life, she shared her loving and selfless nature with many people. She
was a strong shoulder for her friends and the glue to her family. Penny was every kid’s favorite
person and second mother because of the way she made them feel so special and important.
She was the best aunt anyone could ask for and treated her nieces, nephews, and friends’
children as if they were her own. Her generosity was especially apparent at Christmas time
when her living room was filled with presents lined up under the tree for other people’s children.
Among her many selfless acts, Penny was a regular blood donor and a lover of animals. Her
social media feed was regularly filled with posts of lost dogs in the hopes that each one would
find their way home. She was protective of the helpless and loved all animals… except turtles.
Those who are blessed to have known her have fond memories of her loving spirit which
showed up in the way she treated the elderly and other random strangers who happened to
catch her eye and needed help. No matter what, she was the best daughter and wife a person
could ask for and will be missed most by her family and friends.
Penny found joy in everyday things. She was known to call her friends and family when she
bought a great new purse or a pair of her favorite Nike shoes. She loved to play ball with Gidget
and relished in spoiling her “fur baby.” Penny was known for making and selling her famous
“JalaPenny’s Salsa” which quickly became a hit in her circle. She loved to find new recipes,
experiment with crafts, and take gambling trips to Las Vegas with Frog.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by Greg Cooper and his loving family, Ken and Sharon Cooper and
their family of Pasadena, Penny’s parents, Diane Rogers and Tim Phillips of Pasadena, and
Thomas Paul Sr. of Deer Park, her siblings Thomas Paul Jr., Rachel (Phillips) Thompson, and
Chad Phillips, her aunts and uncles including Laura and Randy Webb of Thornton, Sonja and
Robert Williams of Merkel, Suzanne and David Williams of Bonita Springs, Florida, and Pat and
Terry McFarlin of Pasadena. In addition, Penny was an important part of the lives of her nieces
and nephews who will always remember their truly amazing Aunt Penny. She leaves behind a
large and loving family, many special friends, and only one “Frank.”
Penny Kayanne (Paul) Cooper touched many lives and will always be remembered for putting
the thoughts and needs of others above her own. She will be missed by so many.
