Gail Henson was born January 21st, 1943, in Electra, Texas. She went to be with the Lord December 31st, 2023, at the age of 80 years old. Gail attended High School in Lefors, Texas where she was a cheerleader. This is where she met the love of her life, David Smith. David and Gail began dating while in high school. David proposed to Gail on April 1st, (April Fool’s Day) 1959 and they were married April 4th. In their sweet and gentle marriage, they navigated life's ups and downs hand in hand. They had two children, David and Jerrie, and years later they adopted their niece Misti as their daughter.
The Smith family moved to Deer Park in 1969. In the 1980’s, the Smith’s lived and worked in Saudi Arabia which allowed them to go on many adventures. They traveled to places like, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Egypt, Dubai, multiple countries in Europe, and all over the United States.
Gail worked as a beautician and a bookkeeper from time to time. She was also a skilled seamstress and made clothes for her family. Gail was an incredible cook and enjoyed making candy of all kinds for the holidays. Gail loved to fish and enjoyed trips to the casino. While in Saudi, Gail took painting lessons and painted a great deal of the art that hung in their home.
Gail and David were known to be very kind and generous. If you were around for long, you were immediately treated like family and greeted with hugs. Her home was always open and welcoming.
Gail was talented and pursued many passions, but her greatest treasure was her family. She helped each grandchild by contributing to their car and education fund. For Christmas and birthdays, Gail enjoyed singing Happy Birthday to each person and always gave with equity.
Gail was a member of the Church of Christ, a dutiful wife, a loving mother, the best Nana a child could wish for. She was a loyal and giving friend to many.
Gail Smith is preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Joe Cochran and her sisters, Katherine Bowen and Frances Reno.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, David Spencer Smith.
Her son: David and his wife Suzanne Smith and grandchildren Megan & husband Daniel Bove’ as well as their great grandchildren Bradley, Addison, & Charlie Bove’. Grandchildren: Melanie Smith and Kayla Smith, and Malauri Swindoll.
Daughter: Jerrie and her husband Mike Muehr, grandchild Summer Lewallen, great grandchildren: Hailey, Madison, Katlyn & Jaden Jordan; grandchild: Sierra Patterson & great grandchildren: Savannah Ruiz-Sessum and husband Michael, Joshua and Dawson Patterson, & LaVoris Hill, Jr.: grandchildren: Julius & Shanda Karow, great grandchildren: Lidia, Brayan, Tatum, and Brielle Karow; along with grandchildren: Mike and April Muehr and their son Mike III; Shawn and Cellie Muehr and their daughter Karissa, and Michelle Case and daughter Chanel.
Daughter: Misti and her husband Brian Mead and grandchildren Colton, Bryce & Cristine Mead
Her sister, Vickie Goheen along with numerous nieces and nephews.
