Joe Powell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, at the age of 93. Born in Conroe, Texas, on March 19, 1931, Joe lived a life marked by hard work, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to his family.
Joe graduated from Conroe High School in 1948 and went on to work at Gentry’s Men’s Wear while attending college. In 1952, he graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College, where he earned a degree that laid the foundation for his long and successful career.
For 40 years, Joe worked at Shell Oil in Deer Park as an internal auditor, retiring in 1992. Even as he excelled in his role at Shell, Joe was known for his tireless work ethic, juggling several additional responsibilities. He served on the Loan Committee for Shell Federal Credit Union, ran the financial operations for Shuman’s Grass Farm, and operated his own income tax preparation business. If there was a way to save on taxes, Joe would carefully explain how to do it, with unmatched precision and patience.
Joe was deeply generous, and his life revolved around taking care of his loved ones. His family was the center of his world, and he was always there to offer his wisdom and support. Anyone who spoke with him will also fondly remember his passion for the stock market, as he eagerly shared his insights with anyone willing to listen.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Powell; his children, Susan Moore, Mark Powell, and Brad Powell; and his grandchildren, Tim Moore, Joel Moore, Keith Moore, Emily Moore, Nicole Powell, Josh Powell, Jacob Powell, Natalie Powell, Joey Powell, Andy Powell, and Sara Powell. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location, followed by a graveside service at 11:00.
