Janice Marie Grear

Janice worked as a fourth grade and first grade teacher at LaPorte Elementary. She had such a love for children and always wanted to be around them so she could share her love for learning with them. Her colleagues knew her as a kind soul and always willing to cheer kids up with hugs. Janice was a member of the LaPorte Teacher Retirement Association. Janice had a love for all animals, especially her cats Gizmo and Lucy, whom she loved dearly.

Janice is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Grear, David Grear, daughter Michele Thompson, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister-in-law Patricia DeFrain, brother Gilbert Wayne Shelton and her cousins Linda Gloor, Helen Hillis, Homer Hillis, Kathy Williamson, Lisa Bruce, Ken Rutherford, niece Marcie Haines, and a host of relatives and friends who have become family through the years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Joseph Grear, and her parents Yuan E and Bernice Shelton.

The family would like to thank Janice’s neighbors, John Dixon, Tony Dixon Kennedy and Rene & Alma Ballasteros for their constant help and support throughout the years. You will always hold a special place in the Grear family.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena TX 77505. A celebration of life service will occur Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home, committal service will follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
