Dolores Taylor

Dolores Ganem Taylor peacefully entered eternal rest to be with Our Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in the home of Elizabeth and Mitch Douglas, her beloved daughter and son-in-law. She passed while surrounded by numerous loved ones.

Dolores Ganem was born to Hilda and Joseph Ganem on August 25, 1930 in Pawtucket, RI. She grew up there with her four siblings Joan, Micheal, Joseph, and Sonia.

In the spring of 1953, Dolores and her dear friend, Eleanor Carnigla, decided to go on an adventure and traveled to San Diego, California for a two week vacation, which extended to six months. They moved into a one bedroom apartment in Ocean Park and procured jobs as bank tellers. A clerk from a drug store, whom they had befriended, introduced them to her husband’s sailor buddies, Dan and Bill.

Dan and Dolores were moonstruck. They had a whirlwind romance and became engaged, in August of that same year. Joe Dan Taylor and Dolores Ganem moved back to Rhode Island and were married there on January 9, 1954. Their marriage lasted for 59 years, until Dan’s passing in November of 2013.

After the birth of their eldest two daughters, the family relocated to Beaumont, TX., where Dan had grown up. They were blessed with three more beautiful daughters before transferring to Deer Park, TX, where they called home until their move to their property on Lake Livingston. Dan passed in 2013 and Dolores eventually moved to Montgomery, TX, living with her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jeff Dugan, until a few months ago.

Dolores’ relationship with God, her church, and her family were the focus and priorities in her beautiful existence on this earth. She loved to laugh, dance, entertain, pray, say her rosary, and attend Mass. She was a former member and volunteer at St. Pius Catholic Church in Beaumont, St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Deer Park, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Livingston. She served on the parish councils, was a CCD instructor, a Eucharistic minister, member of the choir, altar/rosary society, prayer group, liturgy and renew committees, and bereavement committees and of the Dominican Laity. The rosary was an integral part of her daily prayers,

strongly believing in the power of prayer, and requested we pray the rosary for her.

The Catholic Church was also an integral part of her work career. She served as the church secretary for St. Pius in Beaumont for many years and was secretary for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston for over ten years.

Dolores was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, sister-in-law, mother, grandmother, godmother, aunt, great grandmother, great aunt, mentor, friend, and devout Catholic.

Her daughters and their partners include: Karen and Gordon Walters, Leslie Taylor and Carol Metzger, Donna and Ken Homfeld, Joan and Jeff Dugan, Elizabeth and Mitch Douglas.

Grandchildren include: Danny Taylor-Homfeld, Timothy Douglas, Jessica Morgan, Keith Walters, Michelle Mingarelli, Lance Walters, Nikki Day, Megan Cannon, Austin Homfeld, Bryce Lynd, Blake Lynd, Jeffrey Dugan, Lauren Douglas, Jessica Homfeld, Taylor Douglas, Travis Walters, Taryn Douglas, and Brady Dugan.

The loving and supporting partners of her grandchildren include: Kelly Taylor-Homfeld, Harry Harris, Lyndsy Walters, Blake Day, Jared Cannon, Monica Gomez, Veronica Lynd, Malori Lynd, Britani Dugan, Laci Douglas, Mallorie Walters, and Elias DeOssio.

Her most cherished great grandchildren are Andi Cannon, Kameron Kress, Jacob Day, Rory Walters, Hudson Harris, Kyleigh Day, Liam Magness, Ander Walters, Jett Dugan, Hayes Harris, Emma Lynd, Jackie Walters, Josh Day, Sebastian DeOssio, Halston Harris, Saylor Douglas, Maddie Lynd, Oaklynn Douglas, Abbie Lynd, and Ellie DeOssio.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Hyacinth Church in Deer Park, TX., on August 31, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will immediately follow the mass at Grand View Memorial Cemetery at 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX.

In lieu of flowers, Dolores requested donations be made to the River of Life Women’s Life Skills Training Center, 206 S. Fenner Ave., Cleveland, TX 77327.

A Celebration of Life, in Dolores Taylor’s honor, will be held on Saturday, September 17, beginning at 3:00 p.m., at the Pasadena Moose Lodge, 3919 Pansy/Mickey Gilley Blvd., Pasadena, TX 77505. The celebration will include an abundance of love and laughs, and a chance for family and friends to hear and share favorite “Dolores” memories.
