Di Anne (Winn) Wallingford, 84, of Deer Park passed away peacefully in Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugar Land on December 1, 2023. She was born in Cleburne, Texas, on March 22, 1939 to Daniel Stanford and May Dell Ward Winn. Di Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Arthur Eugene Wallingford, her mother and father, her sister Carol Sue, her brother Jerry Dan, and infant brother Daniel. Di Anne leaves behind her two children: daughter Linda Deason and husband Gary, and son John Wallingford and wife Chris: her two grandchildren: granddaughter Jessica Vickers and husband Shelby, and grandson Joseph Vigneri and wife Patti; six great-grandchildren; her bother Richard Winn, and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Di Anne’s early career was spent as a skilled data processor, where she worked for many years with Cravens Dargan & Company and later with NASA. She supported mission control during the 1969 moon landing. The final decades of her career, up until her retirement in 1999, were spent in accounts payable at the Lyondell refinery in Pasadena. She and her husband were members of Lyondell’s retiree club. Di Anne joined a group of retired women from the refinery who went to lunch on a monthly basis, which she absolutely loved.
Following retirement, Di Anne and her husband traveled extensively in their RV, where they hit each state, and several of the Canadian provinces at least twice. They traveled for leisure as well as many of their son’s important events in the Army, such as his graduations from schools scattered all over the US.
Although Di Anne enjoyed watching all forms of sports, football was her true passion. She and her husband attended Pasadena High School, University of Houston, AND Houston Oiler games every week for many years early in their marriage. They lived for football season. Later in life Di Anne also became an ardent NASCAR fan. She would read the sports section of the Houston Chronicle cover to cover each and every morning. Her ability to recite stats for both of these sports was uncanny and she gave her grandson a run for his money in this department.
Di Anne was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church in Pasadena since childhood. For decades she offered service to the church by recording attendance for children’s Sunday school. As with other areas in her life, she provided this service with incredible dedication. She dearly loved working in the nursery taking care of babies, which she did thru her early seventies.
She became the family matriarch after her mother passed away in 2005 and kept track of everyone to make sure all was well and to jump into action if anyone was in need. She cared deeply for her family and friends and they all knew it. She was kind, generous, fiercely loyal, aggravating and exasperating - all the things and more that made Di Anne, Di Anne. She will be missed sorely by those who knew her well.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Di Anne’s caregivers in the memory care unit at The Village at Sugar Land for the compassion and care they provided to her over the past 15 months. They truly afforded Di Anne the quality of life that we all wanted her to have.
A visitation for Di Anne will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505. A celebration of life will occur Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505.
