Cynthia Louise McCollum Granier, 62, was born August 29, 1958, to Roy N. and Ruth E. McCollum of Houston, TX. Surrounded by loved ones, she peacefully went to meet Jesus on Monday, November 23, 2020, following a recent cancer diagnosis.
Cindy grew up in Houston, attending Southmayd Elementary, Deady Junior High and Milby High School. She wore many hats during her lifetime and worked for several companies including Austin Industries and Memorial Hermann Hospital. At the time of her death, Cindy was less than one month short of a 25 year tenure as an administrative assistant at the University of Houston, where she was recipient of an Unsung Hero award.
Cindy was a “behind the scenes” treasure in so many ways. She enjoyed helping others to accomplish their goals and volunteered with many organizations any time the plea for assistance was issued. Some of her favorite volunteer adventures included Vacation Bible School at Milby Memorial UMC and Crosby UMC, Children’s Sunday School at Lake Houston UMC, leading Girl Scouts, working with the PTA, fundraising for March of Dimes and wrapping gifts for Toys for Tots.
Of all the things she held dear, family, especially her children and grandchildren, were what she most loved and enjoyed. She was always so proud of her children and eager to share her pride with them and others. Her grandchildren held the most special place in her heart.
Cindy is preceded in death by her parents and Father-in-law, Harold Granier. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Spitz and husband, Douglas Spitz; son, John Granier and fiancée, Misty Caffey; grandchildren, Tyler, Nathan and Kaylee Granier and Judith Spitz; sister, Patsye Pittman and husband, Bill Pittman; Mother-in-law, Shirley Granier, and many other friends and family. Serving as pallbearers are Malcom Davis, Ronald Harris, Harris LaGrange, Damian Martinez, Mark McElveen and Bill Pittman.
Reverend Charles Jordan will be officiating the service. Lisa Worthen and Denise Thompson will serve as musicians.
