Marion (Josephine) Stelck (ne: Clare) passed peacefully on Friday October
18,2024. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Ron (Val), Howard (Marietta)
and daughter Lorraine (Rod). With heart breaking sadness daughter Yvonne
(Darrell) passed away in 2020. Marion will always be "Grandmar" to her
grandchildren Brett, David (Jazmin), Samantha (Wesley) & Mackenzie (Mikayla)
and to her great grandchildren Kingston, Landon, Kai, Felicity & Ella. Also
remembering their "Aunty Marion" are her various nieces & nephews..
especially her nephew Malcolm (Maureen & Dan) Stelck whom she stayed so
close. Friends and neighbours shared fond memories during her lifetime.
Marion grew up in Prince George BC under her loving parents Stephen &
Elizabeth (Bessie) Clare. Her childhood was a warm and wonderful one with
her brother Hilliard & step-siblings Betty, Walter & Dorothy watching over
her.
After High School she made the brave step of moving on her own to Victoria
on Vancouver Island, enrolling in and graduating from St Joseph's School of
Nursing in 1952. making many deep, lifelong friendships and precious
memories while attending there.
Then a young Frank Stelck came into her life and their adventure began! They
married at ages 24, and after 4 short months of courtship headed up to live
for 5 years in the tiny northern hamlet of Baker Lake NWT. Frank served as
"Officer in Charge" of the weather station and Marion caringly honed her
nursing skills. Her love of the Inuit Peoples stayed with her for the rest
of her life.
After the birth of their 4 children they made their way down to Winnipeg to
make their new home and enjoy many more lifelong friendships & memories.
Then after retiring "the call of the west" pulled them both back to BC where
they lived their lives out exploring Vancouver Island. Camping year round
was a favorite activity of theirs. Marions' weekly hiking dates with her
unique group of ladies was something she truly treasured. One of those
ladies, Karen, was a true & steadfast friend till the end . Bless you Karen.
Frank passed in 2014 and shortly after his passing Marion moved to Stanford
Seniors Village where she received wonderful care. 'Compassionate
Companions' Samantha & Barb were amazing. thank you both so much for being
there with mom when we couldn't be.
Marion (Mom, Aunty, Grandmar) will always be remembered for her incredibly
sharp, curious mind (those amazing Jeopardy moments) and her unique sense of
humour. Her love of nature & the arts along with writing poetry, enjoying
music, history, politics, and hiking . all filled her retirement days with
joy.
It is with deep pride and overwhelming love that we say goodbye to this
wonderful woman we called 'Mom'.
