He was born September 2, 1941 in Little Hocking, Ohio; as the 5th of 7 kids born to Harold C. and June Packer, he quickly and permanently pledged his loyalty to his WVA Mountaineers.
After graduating from Parkersburg in 1959, he joined the U.S. Army and served proudly.
Richard was a loving and proud dad and coached many bowling teams through YABA and Ren Dor youth leagues.
In 1986, he met his forever love and partner, Jan. They sustained their new family of 5 kids through all sorts of shenanigans, creating one happy tribe.
Richard worked for DuPont for 35 years as an Electrician and Instrumentation Mechanic, He spent many years volunteering for the American Red Cross in Washington County, handily pressed into this service through Jan, where she was the director.
Dick was an avid golfer and after today's 9am tee-time played on the finest golf course God ever created in Heaven, he will be playing cards with brother-in-law Stan Hitt, brother Fred "Jim" Packer, brother-in-law Dale Conley, sister Ruth Eddy and brother-in-law Jim Wayman. We are sure his mother June, will be joining them for a few hands.
Richard met Jan 30 years ago and he will be her forever love and she will be forever thankful for the beautiful life they shared together and will one day share again.
He is survived and will be profoundly missed by daughter Susan (Mike) Ferguson, son Michael (Debbie) Packer, son Damon (Daniel) Dalrymple, daughter Amy (Bryan) Murphy, son Raymon Dalrymple.
His loving grandchildren Morgan, Madysen, Max, Nicole (Michael), Tennessee, Indie, Ellie, Little Ray (Danyell), Adam (Christine), Michaela,
Hunter and Dylan will miss his calm soft voice and his teasing playful way, as will his rambunctious 15 great-grandchildren.
Richard will remain in the hearts of his special brother-in-law Jim (Vivian) Rodman and sister-in-law Phyllis Conley.
He is leaving behind his "childhood cohorts in crime" sisters Reba Hitt and Jean Wayman, brothers Ron (Kathy) Packer and Don (Pat) Packer and sister-in-law Shirley Packer who will cherish and enjoy those memories. Khya, Richards' special furry friend will miss the treats he would sneak to her.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 3, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Funeral Service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Online tributes may be made to www.sunsetparkersburg.com.
