On the evening of July 29, 2023, Bruce Edward Raney passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family. He was born in Paris, Texas, the eldest son of Maurice Henry and Jeanetta Marlene Raney on November 23, 1944. He married Lana Sue Brown on December 5, 1963. Together they had two children and Bruce worked in management with the Sears Corporation while raising his young family. In 1975, Bruce and Sue purchased Lamar Seed Store in downtown Paris where they along with their two children grew their business to eventually include a pet store. Lamar Seed and Pet Store was a popular attraction in downtown Paris and the whole family enjoyed working together. Bruce also went on to open Plaza Furniture store also located in downtown. Years later in 1989, he designed and built Pine Ridge Golf Course. Bruce was a brilliant and very successful businessman. He loved his family and worked hard to instill good values in his children. He loved to "treasure hunt" with his metal detectors and had an eagle eye when it came to hunting for arrowheads. His arrowhead and coin collections were extensive and very impressive. Bruce is survived by his loving partner and care-giver Martha Malone, his younger brother Travis and wife Jerry, daughter Gina Cooper along with her husband Ricky and son Steven Raney, grandchildren Haley Watkins and husband Patrick, Luke Krogman and wife Courtney, Keaton Raney and Peri Raney, great grandchildren Mason Soliz, Ava Krogman and Klaire Watkins.
Our "Papa Bruce" will be greatly missed!
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Platinum Hospice. Not only was their staff professional, but also very kind and compassionate.
Memorial services are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2nd at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Bro. Michael Stone officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
