Mary was born on March 23, 1926, to the late James and Elizabeth Foy. Born to Irish immigrants, she was the eldest daughter of eight siblings: Thomas, James, Bettie, Loretta, Trish, Michael Francis and Joan.
Mary graduated from West Catholic Girls High School and met her future husband, James F. Pyne Sr, at Chez Vous Roller Skating Rink at the tender age of 15. They married three years later on December 21, 1944. Together, they spent 49 years raising their five children and enjoying their grandchildren until Jim passed away in 1993.
A devoted mother to her children: Tina Feman, Karen (Bob), Jim (Marla), Gerald “G” (Rebecca), and Beth Rubenstein (David), she also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Mary enriched the lives of her family and relatives with compassion, playfulness, practical wisdom, youthful energy, and guidance. She added joy and laughter to everyone she encountered and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was known for lifting hearts with her Irish sense of humor that sustained her throughout her life.
Affectionately known as grandmom, she took great delight and interest in each of her grandchildren. She was a keen listener remembering the details of each of their lives. She was always there to make them laugh, offer good counsel, and praise them for their latest endeavors. Lovingly known as GG to her great grandchildren, Mary loved being with the little ones—singing songs, playing games, and making them laugh. She always ended her visits with them by singing, “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.”
A Celebration of Life Mass will take place on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 10 am at St. Norbert Church, 50 Leopard Road, Paoli, PA. Due to Covid-19, there will be no visitation prior to Mass, and interment will be private for immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made in Mary’s honor to Surrey Services, 60 Surrey Way, Devon, PA 19333.
