It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Kevin Patrick Mitchell, a beloved father, husband, and friend, on December 10, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 12, 1955 to Francis and Marialyse Mitchell, Kevin lived a full, accomplished, and generous life, defined by his love of his family, dedication to his friends, and often terrible jokes.
Kevin attended Cardinal Dougherty High School often causing trouble with his friends and went on to graduate from St. Joseph's University in 1980 with a B.A. in International Relations. While he began working in restaurants at the age of just 12, his career led him to CIGNA in 1982 before his path took him into entrepreneurship, starting the Business Travel Contractors Corporation in 1994. Two years later, that morphed into the Business Travel Coalition which for nearly 30 years has served as an advocacy organization and a platform for airline passenger rights. Throughout his professional journey, Kevin was recognized for his relentless zeal, work ethic and advocacy on behalf of airline passengers around the country, always guided by the belief that "It's amazing what can be accomplished when there's no concern for who gets the credit."
On a personal level, Kevin found his greatest joy in his family. He married the love of his life, Linda Mitchell, in 1988 living in Conshohocken and then Plymouth Meeting when their love story further blossomed with the birth of their son, Brandon Mitchell, on June 10, 1990. In 2001, he and his family moved to Radnor, PA where he cultivated a tremendous group of friends and admirers from across the Main Line restaurant scene. When his son, Brandon, moved to Miami, FL in 2008 for college and then 2015 for work, he never missed an opportunity to make sure Brandon knew of the latest restaurant opening in South Florida. His love for his family and his community was palpable and unwavering until his final days.
Kevin will be remembered not only for his dedication to his profession of advocacy and family but for the generosity of his spirit. He was a man who gave freely, without thought for recognition, even if it meant you had to laugh at one of his poorly told jokes.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife Linda and their son, Brandon; siblings Francis, Mary Jule, and Greg; nieces Kelly and Maegan, and nephew Dillon. Their memories of Kevin will persist, reminding them and all who knew him of the special man he was. The family looks forward to receiving visitors with some of those memories on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 5PM, at Alleva Funeral Home in Paoli, PA.
