Joseph F. Uricchio MD. 87, died peacefully on Tuesday, 2/18/14, at his home in Valley Forge with his family at his side. He was the husband of Eleanor Frances Keily Uricchio of Providence, Rhode Island.
Born in East Hartford Connecticut, the son of pharmacist Frank Uricchio and Nellie Lentino Uricchio, Dr. Uricchio was a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford and Tufts Medical School in Boston. His medical training continued at Boston City Hospital on the Tufts Service followed by cardiology training at Rhode Island Hospital. He came to Philadelphia in 1956 where he worked at the Bailey Clinic at Hahnemann, then a center of cardiac and cardiac surgical innovation. In 1971, he moved to the Medical College of Pennsylvania where he assisted in the development of the heart surgical program. He is the author of numerous publications and contributed to a number of textbooks. Dr. Uricchio returned to Hahnemann in 1986 while expanding the practice to Lankenau Hospital. Retirement came in 1997 at the age of 72. He was subsequently able to enjoy his family, grandchildren, travel, and frequent golf outings.
He is survived by his wife, three children, Francis (Chip) Uricchio M.D. of Wallingford Pennsylvania, Ellen Snow of Silverton, Oregon, and David Uricchio of Furlong Pennsylvania, as well as five grandchildren, Graham Uricchio of Pittsburgh, Janice Uricchio of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, Kyle Snow of Silverton, Oregon, and Bryan and Sarah Uricchio of Furlong, Pennsylvania.
