Elizabeth Therese Spillane

Born in St Paul, MN, to parents Geoffrey and Mary Mahoney, Betty grew up there with her 7 siblings. After attending Catholic school, she received her BA in Library Science and French from Saint Catherine University, and subsequently worked as a Librarian in St Paul. In 1959, she married her husband, Paul J. Spillane, who passed away in 1988. They adopted five children, and Betty devoted all her time to raising them. In 1970, they moved to Wayne, PA and she lived in the area until her death at 91 years old. She is survived by her 5 children: Paul (Jill Pascoe) Spillane, Anne (Jason Rinn) Spillane, John (Kate) Spillane, Jean (JR) Benning, Steven (Brooke) Spillane; and 12 grandchildren: Caroline, Rebecca, Lauren, Emma, John (Jack), Paige, Evan, Tara, Paula, Maya, Margaret (Maggie), and Henry. She is also survived by 2 siblings: Margaret Ann McMahon and James Mahoney.

As a devout Catholic and homemaker, Betty was involved in her church and community until moving into assisted living in 2018. Upon the death of her husband, Betty spent years traveling the U.S. and the world, visiting most states, and over 100 different countries. She was also an avid walker, and enjoyed long walks around Valley Forge National Park, down the shore on Long Beach Island, and around her neighborhood. Regarded by all who knew her as a kind and loving spouse, mother, neighbor and friend, she will be dearly missed.

The family of the late Elizabeth Spillane would like to invite you to the following services for their mother. A visitation for Elizabeth will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Isaac Jogues Church, 50 Walker Rd, Wayne, Pennsylvania 19087, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM.
