Dorothy M. Hurst

DOROTHY M. (nee Carlin), 92 of Devon, PA passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Russel F., who preceded her in death in 2015. Dorothy was born on July 30, 1925 in Clifton Heights, PA to Joseph J. and Dorothy L. (nee King) (both deceased). Dorothy is survived by her dear sister Doris Curran, nephews Thomas Curran (Ann), Joseph Curran, Philip Curran, and John Curran (Suzanne), her nephews’ children and grandchildren, three generations of Russel’s family, and many close friends. She was also predeceased by her sister Jean and her brother Joseph.

Dorothy Hurst lived an interesting life based on faith and family. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA, Dorothy entered the Order of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. After completing her undergraduate degree at Immaculata College and post-graduate studies at the University of Virginia, Dorothy held a variety of challenging teaching and administration positions in schools throughout the Philadelphia area, Lima, Peru, and Santiago, Chile. After marrying Russel Hurst in 1978 the couple spent 37 wonderful years together, traveling the world, spending the winter months in Doral, FL and the rest of the year in Devon. No matter where they lived Dorothy and Russel remained in close contact with friends and family, always willing to provide assistance and guidance.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday February 20, 2018 starting at 10:00am, followed by Mass at 11:00am, at St. Monica's Church in Berwyn. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Camilla Hall/Sisters of IHM, Immaculata, PA 19345 or online at http://camillahall.org/make-a-donation/ .
