Dee was born in Seattle, Washington on May 25, 1929, to Ilario and Desolina (Perrupato) Libri. She met her husband while attending Seattle University. They married in September 1951, and welcomed their seven children over the next 14 years as they moved from Binghamton, NY to Sharonville, OH and Daytona Beach, FL for Allan’s profession. In 1966, they settled in Devon, PA, for many years and subsequently moved to Valley Forge.
Dee was active in the many school, sports, and church organizations in which their children were involved. Her dedication to her family was constant, as she supported their many endeavors, including boy scouts, basketball, music, theater, church, and academics. Dee’s personal interests included opera, photography, and archeology. She was a formidable opponent at bridge and Rummikub. Dee was skilled at crocheting, sewing, and baking. Her baking skills were on full display at Christmastime when she would create up to 25 different varieties of cookies in addition to other seasonal baked goods. Having lost her beloved husband, Allan, unexpectedly after 37 years of marriage, Dee supported others through loss for many years as a grief counselor at St. Isaac Jogues.
Dee was incredibly proud of her Italian heritage, so much so that she obtained dual Italian and American citizenship. Her love of all things Italian may have sparked another great passion - travel. In fact, travel and wanderlust were the hallmarks of the second half of her life. Dee visited over 40 countries in almost 40 years, covering 6 out of the 7 continents. Some notable examples are Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Thailand, Australia, Africa, Egypt, Israel, Spain, Romania, Ireland, Argentina, and Peru. While she loved the African safari, she also loved Turkey enough to visit 3 times. The prize, of course, belonged to Italy which garnered the most tally marks of all. Dee inspired future Eagan generations with her passion for travel by taking many of her grandchildren to a destination of their choosing when they turned 16 years old.
Even though our mother was blessed with many happy and healthy years after our father passed in 1988, he always remained the love of her life and of our lives, too.
We love you both, Mom and Dad, and we will miss you.
