George Carl Wolfe, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home on July 30, 2019, surrounded by his adoring family. The only son of a Swedish immigrant was born on April 15th, 1930 in Redwing, Minnesota. He was raised by his mother and his uncle after his father passed away when he was three years old. As he grew, George excelled at everything he set his mind to, including baseball, acting, music, and ultimately business. He matriculated at Gustavus Adolphus College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with honors and he was president of his fraternity. In his senior year, he got a brand new Maroon Pontiac, and on a drive with his friends from campus back to Redwing, he met the love of his life - hitchhiking with her friends. One year later, he and Shirley were engaged and were married just in time for him to proudly serve his country in the Navy in the Korean War. He was a Lieutenant JG assigned to the USS Redstart Minesweeper. They then relocated to the west coast, first in Long Beach and then to San Diego, CA. After his honorable discharge, George started his career in management at Moore Business Forms, where he would remain for 40 years until he retired. They moved to Clearwater, Florida where they lived for over 50 years. He was a deacon in the church and he was very committed to his Lord Jesus Christ.
George and his wife of 66 years had four children of their own but he knew that he had more love to give. Over an 11 year period, he and Shirley fostered 49 children, caring for each child as if they were their own. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, children, and their spouses, Sharilyn (Richard), Trevor (Renee), Jana (Tom) and Nicole, as well as eight grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Chad, Marissa, Jeremy, Graham, Brianna, CJ, and one great-grandchild, Kinsley. George was a committed and caring husband and the kindest, loving father. He will be missed beyond measure.
A private family gathering was held. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
