She grew up in a pristine and beautiful area of Tennessee located near the Kentucky border that became part of the Tennessee Valley Authority, which was an important component of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal economic recovery plan. Her father Alex Cross was employed by the TVA to help clear the land for the reservoir lakes and hydroelectric plants. The family of 2 adults and 7 children lived on a farm near Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, and Eva became a lifelong animal lover and expert gardener as a result of that experience. Her many passions, included embroidery, cooking, antiquing, solving crossword puzzles, gardening, and she loved spoiling her many pet dogs. She was also a gardener extraordinaire. Her numerous award worthy gardens not only beautified her own properties, but also every neighborhood that she ever resided in. People would drive from miles away to see her magnificent rose and flower gardens.
Eva was born with exceptional good looks, and she used that blessing to work as a fashion model in her late teens through her early twenties in the Detroit and Atlantic City areas. It was this experience that led to meeting her future husband, U.S. Navy fighter pilot Lieutenant Al Bazer, who had flown to Detroit from Naval Air Station Atlantic City to avoid a hurricane, Hurricane Ione, which struck the East Coast in September of 1955. They met at a nightclub that had featured a fashion show as their nightly entertainment show, and they both immediately experienced head-over-heels love at first sight. They married almost exactly one year later on September 23, 1956, and remained happily married for almost 65 years, until Al’s death on June 26, 2021.
They lived in the Atlantic City, NJ area for most of their marriage, where she worked as a Real Estate Broker for many years, before becoming a fine jewelry saleswoman at Macy’s. In 2003 they were both retired, and following their dreams, they moved full time to live in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. They finally bought their dream home, and enjoyed many wonderful years of retirement together in the Florida sunshine. It was in Palm Beach Gardens at the PGA National community where they both spent the rest of their lives.
Eva was a first rate cook, and she loved to entertain her many friends by serving them wonderful meals. She had a winning personality, and made many fast friends during her lifetime, all of whom enjoyed her terrific sense of humor. Friends were extremely important to her, and she made every effort to maintain her friendships indefinitely. She was often compared to Lucy Ricardo of the 1950’s sitcom I Love Lucy, and that was a perfect analogy. To know Eva was to love her, and her entire family absolutely adored her.
Last but not least, she was an absolutely beautiful person, an amazing mother and grandmother to all of her children and grandchildren, and a wonderful wife to her husband Al. She will be sorely missed, and will be loved and remembered by her friends and loved ones forever.
Eva was preceded in death by her spouse Alvan T. Bazer.
Eva is survived by her son Steven (Stephanie) Bazer and her daughters D. Valerie Bazer Losco and Andrea (Graeme) Ayers; her granddaughters Marie Bazer, Karen Bazer, Alexis Bazer, and Julie (Elias) Simon her grandson John Losco, her niece Kathleen Quinn Redmond, nephew Patrick Younan (Erica), her 4 sisters Helen Personett, Lavonne Younan (Nabil), Rebecca Bennett, and Michelle Cross. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Alex Cross and Ricky Cross.
A Graveside Service for Eva will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches, 9321 Memorial Park Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33412.
