Charles Lewis Ames, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, walked into the arms of his Lord and Savior on September 3, 2018. I know his beloved wife, Katsuko Bonnie Ames, was there waiting for him. Their love was a love that fairy tales are made of and songs are sung about. They are back together again.
He was a loving father to five children: Myra Land, Rick Fowler, Alita Marchand, Donna Leighton, and Elaine Burklund. His legacy of love will continue with his children and 10 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. His nephews, nieces, and their children were all encompassed in his warmth. His loving ways will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charles was a rare example of a soldier of the Greatest Generation. He served his nation in World War II and the Korean War as a United States Marine, and then in the Vietnam War serving in the US Air Force. His awards include: World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal w/2 bronze stars, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 bronze star, United Nations Service Medal, and many others. In addition, he received the South Vietnam Medal of Honor (from the South Vietnam Army HQ, General Tran Van Minh) for his service as ground security advisor to the South Vietnamese Military.
He will be forever loved and cherished by those who were fortunate to know him.
