Sandra grew up in and around the Monterey Peninsula, graduating from Monterey High School, Class of 1955. She had a brilliant smile and an endearing laugh and nature. She worked as a child care provider and was known as Momma Sandra by the many children she cared for over the years. Later, Sandra returned to school, completed her studies and worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide.
Momma Sandra was known for her love of family, friends and her work within the community. In the 1990’s, she was a founding member of the Juneteenth Committee that was responsible for bringing the Juneteenth celebration (The commemoration of the ending of slavery) to Seaside.
She is survived by her Sons: Ron (Cheryl) Brown and Brian (Annie) Olowude; her daughters: Chrystine Glenn and Andrea Williams. She leaves behind Grandchildren: Gregory (Elyssa Lucero) Glenn Jr, Michael (Paulina) Brown, Stephon (Patricia Valencia) Thrasher, Anthony R Williams Jr., Isaac (Lisa Vazquez) Alexander, Quintrell (Vanessa Rodríguez) Alexander, Erica (Sean Gayman) Brown. Also her Great-Grandchildren; Gregory Keith Glenn III, Jayden Michael and Jordan Mitchell Brown, and Anthony R. Williams III and I’maani Louise Alexander, and many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Dear Friends whom she considered Family.
She was preceded in death by her Sons, John Curtis Brown Jr. and Anthony R. Williams and Grandson, Christopher J. Glenn.
A memorial service is planned for 2pm on Sunday, December 16th at The Little Chapel by-the-Sea, 65 Asilomar Boulevard, Pacific Grove, CA 93950. (Flowers may be sent to The Paul Mortuary, 390 Lighthouse Ave, Pacific Grove, CA 93950). A celebration of Momma Sandra’s life will immediately follow at 3:30pm at the Monterey Moose Lodge, 555 Canyon Del Rey Blvd. Del Rey Oaks, CA.
She will be interred at the El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove.
