Alexander Jon Anderson was born in Dakar, Senegal on July 24, 1978. Alex was the son of Beatrice and James Anderson, a U.S. diplomatic family stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
In his youth Alex and his brother Christopher lived in Guinea Bissau, Mali and Indonesia where they prospered as avid participants in the cultures of these fascinating countries. Alex went on to become a superb competitive swimmer holding records in Indonesia, Singapore as well as in the Eastern U.S.
After graduating from New Hampton Academy in New Hampshire, Alex secured an A.S. degree from Penn State University and settled into a beautiful life with his wife Cheryl Hershberger an accomplished educator at Penn State.
They had two beautiful children, Elani and Zoie who Alex and Cheryl nurtured and adored. Alex worked at Accuweather in State College for 11 years where he received Employee of the Year awards on multiple occasions. He eventually was promoted to a Senior Program Manager in charge of Localization helping the company compete in the international arena including the Middle East and Asia.
Unfortunately, we lost Alex prematurely on April 9, 2024. He will be terribly missed by his family and hundreds of friends he nurtured across many countries during his life.
The family requests that donations in Alex's memory be sent to organizations that work to improve criminal justice in the United States.
