A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 2:00pm at New Summerhill Baptist Church Cemetery in Daleville with Rev. Titus Cummings officiating and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm in the Chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark.
Lawrence was born on July 18, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Upon graduating from high school at the age of 18, he joined the US Army on Dec 21, 1961 and then served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. In November of 1969 he married Eva Neal and they proceeded to adopt a daughter, Veronica Reese. On December 31, 1982, he retired a Sergeant First Class, right after the birth of his second adopted child, Nicholas Turner.
Lawrence attended Aviation College in 1983. He joined the Civil Service on March 24, 1984 and worked in many different capacities until January 31, 2007. He made his home in Ozark, Alabama, where he lived for 37 years.
Lawrence Turner lived his life giving of himself for the betterment of others. From his years in the military serving the country, to spending over 30 years raising kids not born to him, to the help he graciously gave to neighbors and friends throughout his life, Lawrence was truly a man of great dignity, humility and love. He loved his family and gave everything for them. He made sure they were always well provided for. He was a worker and he believed in working hard every day and giving his best to the work he did.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Eva Turner, his biological mother and father, Lucy Ann Turner and Elijah McDaniel, and closest family members Gladys Graham and Rosetta Fennell.
Lawrence is survived by his sisters Mary Burns-Pressley, and Rachel Dasher, both of Philadelphia; daughter Veronica Ware (Kery Ware), Ozark; son Nicholas Turner (Nicole Turner), Milwaukee; grandsons Elliot Guillory and Brandon Scott and great granddaughters Azalea Guillory and Sofia Scott all of Ozark; a host of brothers, sister, nieces and nephews; special friend Reyna Thompson.
