Joy Arline Griffin

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the chapel at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Chaplain Bobby Enfinger officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the local DAV.

Joy graduated from High School in Portsmouth, Virginia in 1955. She met a young Navy man, Fred Griffin, and they were married on July 2, 1956 in the chapel at Naval Air Station in Oceana, Virginia. They remained on Active Duty with the U.S. Navy until Fred’s retirement on September 1, 1978. On July 2, 2012 they celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, George Roland and Helen Estelle Echols Goodroe.

She is survived by her husband, Frederick P. Griffin from St. Petersburg, Fla.; her sons, Michael James Griffin from Portsmouth, Va., and Barry Patrick Griffin from U.S. Naval Hospital, Argentia, Newfoundland and his spouse, Patricia Blodgent Griffin from Binghamton, NY; her daughter, Beverly Jill Griffin Cannuli from Portsmouth, Va., and her spouse, Frank T. Cannuli from District Heights, MD; her grandchildren, Michael James Griffin, Jr., Joshua Griffin (Ashley), Bobbie Sue Griffin Cox, Beth Ann Griffin and fiancé, Bryan Van Vleet, Billie Joe Griffin, Joel Cannuli (Michelle) and Rhianna Cannuli Delbridge (Kip); her great-grandchildren, Austin, Tanner, Jon Michael, Abigail, Hayden, Jayden, Dylan, Kayla, Lily, Lexi, Haley, Brayden and Landon.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Hart, Harry Grainger, Jack Perkins, Paul Potter, Bo Boman and Ransome Mooreland.
