Joan was born and raised in Queens, NY, where she later met and married John and they began a family. John Jr. and Nancy were born in Queens, they later moved to Bayshore NY where their second son Thomas was born. Joan began her career at Metropolitan Life Insurance company, she had a passion for her work. She was known for being well dressed and color coordinated from head to toe.
When Joan retired initially from MetLife she decided she was not yet ready for retired life and she went back to work still in the insurance industry. In 1993 Joan began her next journey as a grandmother, she was blessed with twin granddaughters, Danielle and Nicole. She couldn’t have been happier when her role as grandma expanded in 1996 when her granddaughter TylerPaige was born. In 1998 she was blessed with her grandson Mikey. She was also a grandmother to Shane her son Johnny’s stepson. Being a grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life, she couldn’t have been prouder of that title. To further enrich her life she was was overjoyed to become a great-grandmother (G.G.) to Callie and Lilah. Being a grandmother and G.G. brought her so much joy, she doted on them and would do absolutely anything for her family.
Joan and John moved to Florida in 1997, which was their life long retirement dream. Joan enjoyed watching the NY Rangers and NY Mets. Joan enjoyed her days at the YMCA with her friends in the silver sneakers program, this kept her active and she made some great friends, she enjoyed going out to lunch with her friends. Joan was a reading enthusiast, one of her favorite authors was James Patterson. Joan also loved watching true crime shows. Joan was an incredible mother in law to her son Thomas’s wife Tracey, and son Johnny’s wife Margie, she was far from a typical mother in law. She was a special lady with so much love to give. There was nothing Joan wouldn’t do for you, she was generous and kind to all that knew her.
Joan was predeceased by her parents William and Florence, husband John, brother Bill and sister Flo.
A visitation for Joan will be held Monday, January 2, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Baldwin-Fairchild Oviedo, 501 E Mitchell Hammock Rd, Oviedo, Florida 32765. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 2, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 501 E Mitchell Hammock Rd, Oviedo, Florida 32765. A committal service will occur Monday, January 2, 2023 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
