Dad’s been gone for a year. I still miss the big hearted grump.

Dad, I miss you so much.  I know it was your time to be with Mom. I enjoyed so much our bike rides and going to Arby's. You are my hero and best friend. I'm comforted so much that you an mom are dancing and you are now able to fish and hunt. Over the last 3 years not feeling well to do that. I miss you now but know I'll see you in Eternity.  I love you your daughter Linda




I worked for Dave in the Regional Office of the U S Forest Service in Atlanta, GA.  I must say that he was one of the finest supervisors I ever worked for.  His management style befitted his military service, as boss he ran things much like an Army colonel.  He was always fair but firm.  It was "his way or the highway".  Sadly to say, that management style is rare today.  I will always remember with respect, my time working for Dave.  
Mike Sparks

He graduated with a masters in the forestry craft from North Carolina State University. Dave was a Korean War veteran and retired from the Army Reserves as a Colonel. He also served with the US Forest Service for 30 years. He retired in Atlanta in 1987 where he worked in Timber Management in the Regional Office.

Dave was an excellent trout fisherman and hunted duck and pheasant regularly. He played tennis and basketball until he ran out of partners. He rode his bike  and played bridge with friends up until a few weeks before his heart finally couldn’t keep up.

The family he left behind includes three daughters, two grandsons and five great grandchildren. Papa will be missed.

DAVE WAS A GREAT FRIEND WITH ME FOR OVER 40 YEARS.
HE WAS A GOOD  FISHERMAN  AND HUNTER.  WE HAD A LOT OF FUN TOGETHER WITH  OTHER  FOREST SERVICE  FOLKS  .   DAVE WAS ALWAYS   FULL OF LIFE.  HE WAS A GRUFF PERSON--  BUT HAD A SOFT HEART FOR HIS FRIENDS  AND FAMILY.      BILL HESS
