Raised in Midland Park, NJ, Bill graduated from Eastern Christian School. He loved to share stories of sneaking into New York City, where the seeds of his life-long love of exploring new places were sown. He attended Calvin College (now Calvin University) in Grand Rapids, MI, from which he graduated with a degree in Secondary Education/ History. There he met and married the love of his life, Janice Vanden Bosch. He started his teaching career at South Olive Christian School, Holland, MI, but quickly found his God given gifts were in administration, and became principal of that school after only two years of teaching full time. During their time in Michigan, they welcomed daughter Sara, and then nearly 3 years later, were surprised with the birth of identical twin sons, Ross and Brad.
In 1975, he accepted a job in Annapolis, MD to be the principal of Annapolis Area Christian School. As someone who studied history and read voraciously, it was a wonderful place to raise his children so near our nation’s capital.
In 1983, he became the administrator of Trinity Christian School in Pittsburgh, PA, then later moved to Rochester Christian School in Rochester, NY. He was next the administrator of Traverse City Christian School in northern Michigan, and finished his career in Overland Park, KS, as an administrator at Westminster Christian Academy (now Heritage Christian School).
In his 40 years in education, he was a mentor to new teachers, united communities, and built up schools of excellence which would bring glory to God.
In his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering in his church, Christ Church Anglican, being an usher at the Kauffman Center in Kansas City, MO, and volunteering at a number of food pantries.
He will be remembered by his family for his gregarious friendliness, his passion for history, his terrible jokes, his rotation of stories (that were often embellished), his undying love for his wife and his family, and his humble service to his savior, Jesus Christ.
Memorial service will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Christ Church Anglican, 5500 W. 91st Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66207. Reception will follow at the Church.
