John Edward McDonald (Jr), age 73, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on May 23, 2022 at St. Luke's Heart Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 10:00 am - 11:30 am at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas with Services to follow at 11:30 am. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas.
John was born on October 27, 1948 to John and Bernice (Gracheck) McDonald. He graduated from Bishop Miege High School in May 1967. He joined the U.S. Army in July 1968, serving 3 years in Viet Nam. He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Risk Management Agency, where he retired in 2008 after 30 years of service. He married Brenda Hughes on July 14, 2004. They built a home in Pleasanton, Kansas in 2006, where together they had a laid-back country way of life enjoying their many animals.
John was preceded in death by his brother, Mark; Dad; Mom; nephew; Tony Mike and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; brothers, Ken, Mike and Dave; sister, Janet Bowers; step children, Amy Trentadue (Brandon); Cory Hughes (Bri) and Amber Thurman (B.J.); 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 1 aunt, 1 uncle; nephews and cousins along with the many friends he made over the years.
