Peter Ambrose McLaughlin

It is with deep sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Peter on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus at the age of 84. Peter was a devoted husband of 50 years to Betty (nee Duncan), and loving Dad to Robin (Jamie Monette), Maura (Francesco Santostefano), and Erin (Jeff Robert).

Molly, Anna, Vincent, and Leo grieve the loss of their precious Papa, who was always available to provide common sense guidance and love.

Peter is survived by his sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law, which includes Mavis (Pat Henry), Ira, Judy (Billy Sullivan), Barbara (Elvyn Mahoney), David (Susan Alexander), Allen, and Ron Duncan.

In the eternal world, Peter will join his parents Walter and Aileen (Cuddihy), and brothers and sisters-in-law Lorraine O’Connor-McLaughlin, Kathryn and Murray Coutts, Allie Duncan, and Phyllis and Ivan McLellan.

Peter will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Peter was an employee of the Bank of Nova Scotia for forty-three years. His banking profession took him all over the world where he represented the Bank with professional integrity.

Peter truly loved the Gatineau Valley and felt blessed to have been born and raised in Venosta, Quebec, where his large extended family came together to build a wonderful and prosperous community. Peter learned at an early age the importance of giving back and volunteering his time to build infrastructure that would bring others together to play sports. Even though he loved his home town, he also reached out and built many friendships with others in the surrounding communities. Many of Peter’s friendships have lasted his entire lifetime.

Peter also appreciated the importance of civic duty especially the significance of participating in the country’s democratic process.

It must be mentioned that Peter was a life-time fan of the Montreal Canadiens (the Habs). He was known to purchase the blue, white and red jersey for others to grow the fan base.

Visitation to be held at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, on November 13, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass, November 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Venosta, Quebec. Interment is at St. Martin’s Cemetery, Martindale, Quebec, immediately following the funeral mass.
